INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 30, 2023) – Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will today and tomorrow make stops across his onetime home of Indiana to smile for photo ops and stand in front of TV cameras, his favorite part of the job.
His least favorite part? Well, that would be the job itself, and it shows.
-
On the verge of a national rail strike last year, he took “a long-planned personal trip” to Portuguese wine country.
-
Prior to the cancellation of 15,000 flights last December, he ignored repeated warnings about the looming disaster.
-
After a toxic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, this past February, he waited 10 days to address the environmental disaster — on social media.
If we learned anything from his time as mayor of South Bend, it's that doing the actual job has never been his favorite and that failure won't keep him down.
Statement from Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer: "No amount of photo ops will change Pete Buttigieg's image as a failed secretary of transportation."
