INDIANAPOLIS - Politico reported this morning that Chuck Schumer, Democrat Joe Donnelly's party boss, is telling members of his caucus to "stay as neutral as you can, as long as you can" on the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.
As Democrat Joe Donnelly appears to be following Party Boss Schumer's orders -- scheduling a meeting with Judge Kavanaugh more than three weeks out -- Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer released the following statement:
"Once again, Democrat Donnelly is taking direction from his Washington, D.C. party boss, Chuck Schumer, and not from Hoosiers.
"Party Boss Chuck Schumer is telling Democrat Donnelly to stay quiet on his position on Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation. That is deceptive, and an approach that Hoosiers have come to expect out of the Washington swamp, not from those who should be our voice. Judge Kavanaugh is a proven jurist with impeccable credentials, and he must be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
"Hoosiers deserve to be represented by a U.S. Senator who will be our voice, and that's exactly the Senator we'll have in Mike Braun. With his outsider perspective and business experience, he'll go to Washington to be part of real solutions, and won't continue the political posturing we're seeing from Democrat Joe Donnelly."
