State GOP Calls on Donnelly to Denounce & Common Council to Override
INDIANAPOLIS - South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Friday made a consequential decision to deny the rezoning of a property, which was already approved by the South Bend Common Council, to allow for the opening of a Women’s Health Center that provides an alternative to abortion. Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Kyle Hupfer issued this statement in response:
“This is yet another example of Pete Buttigieg putting his national ambition ahead of what’s best for South Bend residents. And what’s worse is that this time he is specifically targeting women with his politically motivated decision making.
“By vetoing the Common Council’s re-zoning to allow for the opening of a Women’s Care Center, Buttigieg is denying underprivileged women on the west side of South Bend with the options and care they need when they don’t know where else to turn. This is a new low in his quest for national power.
“We call on Senator Joe Donnelly to put his convictions where his mouth is and denounce Buttigieg’s anti-woman decision. We also encourage the Common Council to immediately take up a vote to override this veto and give the women of South Bend what they deserve.”
