At least one key win from legislative session
May 13, 2015

The Indiana General Assembly recently wrapped up its 2015 session. This session may have garnered more attention than any previous as a number of controversial bills found their way onto the docket. Though likely to be remembered for its controversies, one key win that seemed to appeal to both sides of the aisle was the Indiana Regional Cities Initiative.

Business and community leaders from all corners of the state worked to secure support from the General Assembly for the program itself and its funding at the $84 million requested by Gov. Mike Pence. They were successful on both fronts.

The initiative is a culmination of a detailed study undertaken by the Indiana Economic Development Corp. of communities around the country experiencing rapid economic growth. Among those communities studied were Raleigh-Durham, Boise, Austin, Nashville and Denver. More information on the program is available atindianregionalcities.com.

Out of its study, the IEDC crafted the program aimed at boosting population growth by inspiring regional development, encouraging regional collaboration, and by partnering financially. The IEDC hope to leverage public and private investment with state investment that could spur growth.
