Indiana Teacher of the Year honored at White House

WASHINGTON (WLFI) – Indiana Teacher of the Year Kathy Nimmer was honored at the White House as one of four finalists nationwide in the National Teacher of the Year contest.

U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita — also the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education — was cheering along for Nimmer, an English teacher at Harrison High School, at Wednesday’s ceremony. The last time Indiana had a finalist was in 1996.

Even though a teacher from Texas took home the national honor, Rokita said Nimmer is an inspiration to all who hear her incredible story.
